I still remember my first day of preschool. My Dad took me, and I wore my favorite baby blue sweatsuit. I remember when school was over he walked out from behind the mirrored glass. I was so surprised to see him, I couldn't believe he was there all along and I didn't even know. I remember running up to him and my sleeves and pant legs were both pushed all the way up. As I got older I learned he stayed to make sure I kept my clothes on, apparently I was quite the stripper back in the day.
Now I am the parent dropping my daughter off and hoping she will be on her best behavior.
We looked at a few schools last Spring and she has been talking about it ever since. It was such a long time from when we went to when she got to actually start so we associated the timeline with her birthday. We told her she got to start school when it was her birthday, when she was three. Ironically she got to go in on her actual birthday for a little open house and then started the following week. After talking about school and what to expect, we had to set a few things straight; mommy was not going with her, and she didn't get to ride the bus. When we got to the open house she got to playing with all the kids and then stopped to tell me across the room "Mom, you go, then you come back and get me!" I assured her that come Tuesday I would be leaving and she would get to stay with her teachers and all her new friends.
When it came time to go, she was very excited. Rob took the day off so he could be there with me to take her and pick her up. While I was getting her ready she wanted to brush her own hair. I made a sad face and told her she didn't even need me anymore. She said "Mama, I go, then I come back and I need you". So thoughtful of her Mommy's feelings. When we dropped her off she gave us each a kiss and went off to do her thing. The first week they had shortened days so instead of going all the way home after we dropped her off, we just went to breakfast and sat in shock at how grown up our little girl had become.
When we went back to get her she was of course so excited to see us. She gave us each a big hug and even gave Emily a hug and kiss and told her she missed her. We could tell she had a great time just by how happy she was but it was like pulling teeth to get out any details. We get emailed their lesson plans each week so I asked her a few questions based on what I knew she was doing, that seemed to get a little more out of her. When I asked her what her favorite part was, she of course said the snack.
Her first day.
Daddy walking her in.
Breakfast on day two.
Crashed after her 2 hour day. I can't wait to see what the full 3 hours does to her next week!

Thank goodness she didn't try to take her clothes off like her Mama did on her first day of preschool!
Thanks for sharing her day - love the pics!
